BackWPup 3.6 with encryption functionality is finally available for Pro users! We had already anticipated it in the previous release, and now it is possible to encrypt backup archives quickly and securely: in this way you safely save your personal data and all the informations of your site.
If you think that data protection is not a priority for you, do not forget that for the new European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) this is an essential requirement that must be met to avoid unathorized access to sensitive data.

La cryptographie, un bouclier impénétrable
Lorsque nous parlons de cryptographie, nous faisons référence à des algorithmes bien connus et largement utilisés pour protéger les données informatiques qui, grâce à l'utilisation d'une information secrète (la clé), permettent de convertir nos archives de sauvegarde en un format illisible, protégeant ainsi les données elles-mêmes contre tout accès non autorisé : la confidentialité des données est ainsi garantie et le RGPD respecté.
De la même manière, on peut inverser le processus : en effet, les mêmes algorithmes utilisés pour rendre nos informations illisibles peuvent, à l'aide de la clé appropriée, ramener les données à leur état d'origine, les rendant ainsi accessibles.
Bien sûr, cela n'est possible que si vous disposez de la clé. La confidentialité de la clé est donc un élément fondamental, car c'est elle qui garantit la sécurité des données.
Méthodes : cryptographie symétrique et asymétrique
Les principales techniques cryptographiques sont de deux types : la technique symétrique, qui utilise une seule clé et offre un excellent niveau de sécurité ; et la technique asymétrique, qui utilise deux clés et offre un niveau de protection plus élevé, mais au prix d'une plus grande complexité de traitement.
BackWPup offers two distinct solutions based on the two types of cryptography: the user can quickly and intuitively choose which method to adopt for each backup archive that he/she intends to protect. In the symmetrical case the key will be managed by the plugin itself, saved in the settings. In the asymmetrical case one of the two keys will be entrusted to the user who must keep it in a safe place.
Il convient d'être prudent sur ce point : si vous perdez une clé, si vous supprimez les paramètres ou si vous la rangez simplement dans un endroit non sécurisé, personne au monde ne pourra restaurer les données précédemment chiffrées avec cette clé.
Archives can be anywhere: BackWPup encryption is by our side!
Did you understand how it works? Then we have a new power in our hands: the backup archives, once encrypted, can be stored anywhere because the encrypted data are not accessible! And BackWPup is therefore able to integrate the functions of encryption and decryption with its normal backup storage managment process: so even when the backups are created to the external destinations that the Pro version provides (Google Drive, Amazon S3, Dropbox, FTP server, etc.) the encryption and decryption techniques are automatically applied by BackWPup without the user having to perform further steps. Great!

Our development team is always working to keep the software up-to-date and efficient, and continuous testing sessions allow the rapid detection of any problems, and therefore the development of solutions and fixes concerning the Free and Pro version of the plugin.
